Pitched in F/Bb, it is designed in the Kruspe style and features a .468″ (11.89mm) bore, 12-1/4″ (311mm) large throat rose brass screw bell, rose brass first branch and leadpipe, nickel silver valve section and tuning slides, tapered rotors and bearings, string linkage with fully mechanical change valve, adjustable levers, lacquer finish.

Bright, compact feel and sound with outstanding tonal beauty. Bell proportions provide a dark but singing tone with fine legato characteristics. Yellow brass produces a higher tone color with more overtones and clearer projection. Capable of playing pianissimo staccato notes sensitively, clearly and evenly. The H180 is a free-blowing horn with rich and resonant intonation. Bell and branch are made of a special brass alloy for a slightly darker coloring of tone. Good projection. Model H180 is an excellent orchestral horn with dark sound and bright overtones.

Used Holton H179 Professional Double French Horn
The H179 has especially good center and projection. This free-blowing horn features a rich, dark sound designed especially for the big horn artist; the tapered tubing and throat of the bell are larger for a bigger, darker tone. The bell flare produces a mellow, velvety tone plus a little overtone of a ringing quality. Hard nickel silver finish allow the horn to respond quickly and sounds brighter up close.
