Michael Rueda

 

Michael Rueda is a freelance musician, private instructor, and oboe repair technician based in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Rueda received his Master of Music from Northwestern University, and his Bachelor of Music from The Ohio State University. His certificate of oboe repair is from the Colorado Institute of Musical Instrument Technology and he has studied with Ginger Ramsay, owner and maker of Covey Oboes. He has performed as a substitute musician with  a number of Midwest organizations, including the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Wind Quintet, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, the Lima Symphony Orchestra, and the New Albany Symphony Orchestra. Audition results include advancing to the finals for the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra auditions, and semi-finals for the Philadelphia Opera, and the United States Navy band in D.C. auditions. Rueda is the oboist and co-founder of the Columbus based Zephyr Chamber Winds.

In 2017, Mr. Rueda was a winner of The Ohio State University concerto competition, in 2018 was a finalist in the Miami Classical Music Festival concerto competition, and a finalist in the Lorée Day at Miami senior competition. Mr. Rueda also has experience in audio engineering as the assistant audio engineer at Ohio State, and freelance audio/video recording. He performed as a recitalist at Mozarthaus Vienna in Austria in 2022 on a study abroad through Ohio State led by Dr. Abby Held. The program included numerous performance opportunities, private lessons and coachings with members of the Vienna Philharmonic and plenty of amazing food! Outside of oboe and english horn, Michael enjoys spending time with his two cats, cooking, playing video games and indoor rock climbing. 

Primary teachers include Robert Sorton, Michael Henoch, Dr. Abby Held, and additional instruction from Dwight Parry, Frank Rosenwein, Jamie Roberts, Hugo Souza, Robert Morgan, Joshua Lauretig and more.
