When: Saturday, April 19th, 2025 8:00am - 12:00pm. Please register here by Saturday, April 12, 2025. Email [email protected] with questions.
Where: Buckeye Brass & Winds 202 N. Chillicothe St., Plain City, OH
Cost: Free!
Who: The entrant must be a current, full-time high school student or undergraduate student at the time of registration.
What: The Classical Competition will be judged by Dr. Carly Hood and Michael Sawzin.
The Jazz Competition will be judged by Dr. Robert Brooks and SMSgt. Greg Pflugh.
Requirements:
High School Jazz | High School Classical | |
Each entrant will perform two different selections for the competition. They are responsible for performing the melody and an improvised solo on each selection. All entrants will perform "Sunnymoon for Two" in Bb and a tune from the list below for a total of 2 selections. A rhythm section will be provided. "All the Things You Are" (Ab) "There Will Never be Another You" (Eb) "Take the A Train" (C) "What is This Thing Called Love" (C) "Autum Leaves" (Bb/G-)

Each entrant will perform two different selections for the competition. They are responsible for performing the melody and an improvised solo on each selection. All entrants will perform "Sandu" in Eb and a tune from the list below for a total of 2 selections. A rhythm section will be provided.

Winners of all competition will receive prized from: Hercules, Silverstein, Vandoren, SLM, Key Leaves, and Buckeye Brass and Winds. Undergraduate winners will also be invited to perform in masterclasses with our guest artists judges during the afternoon. |

- Etude number 14 from number 48 Famous Studies for Oboe and Saxophone by W. Ferling
- Any selection of your choosing from the OMEA Class A list that best displays your technique and musicianship.
Undergraduate Jazz
Each entrant will perform two different selections for the competition. They are responsible for performing the melody and an improvised solo on each selection. All entrants will perform "Sandu" in Eb and a tune from the list below for a total of 2 selections. A rhythm section will be provided.

- Mvt. 3 (m. 1-160) from Sonata by Maslanka
- Mvt. 1 from Concerto by Ibert
